Like you I can’t put names to all the birds but love them anyway. What a treat to see a kingfisher fisher and watch flamingos 🦩 walking . An unforgettable day out with family. A lovely introduction to your spring Pipp . So enjoyable to read .

Oh so glad you enjoyed this one. I seem to get more and more pleasure from the birds as I get older. King fishers are stunning aren’t they.

Absolutely stunning, I’ve always loved them but I’m following more photographers taking wildlife birds as well as the more common birds which are beautiful, ducks to . Maybe the thought of flying, freedom is somewhere in the mix 🦅

I love this. Our oyster catchers, lapwings and curlews are back. There are so many geese turning up now too. It is lovely to hear bird song again after the quiet of winter. You have inspired me to pop some feeders up for when the swallows come back x

How lucky for you that you live so close to somewhere good for birds

Wonderful words, full of the joys of spring. One of our early signs is the sun making it around the north side of our barn before setting, always a momentous day. It’s as likely to snow after that as before but we still like to think of it as a harbinger of spring. I’m also jealous of the kingfisher sighting. I’ve never seen one on our stretch of river despite all my neighbours telling me they have.

Yes I get you, how momentous that day is. We too have had grey days since the moment I realised the sun can jump over.

I wish you lots of luck to see a King fisher - it must be just a matter of time!! They flit so fast!

Pipp you are not going to believe this! Because I am so behind in reading and replying and commenting and everything else that comes with writing here on Substack - I never ever get time for Notes anymore either - I was listening to the AI voice reading your story while walking over the hill and down to the lake which had recently been emptied for dredging. Thankfully it is now full again and as I was walking along the left bank - a post is coming re what I saw on the right bank but I won't give it away here - just as I hear the voice say "That flash of sapphire lights up a current of electricity through your heart and makes you smile." I saw a Kingfisher! I was so excited as it is years for me too since I was lucky enough to be in the right place at the right time and then I looked at the right bank... you'll have to wait for the rest but boy talk about the things you see that you don't want to!

Anyway, all that to say thanks heaps for the mention - I loved this post spent with your family, I was reading about the Ebro Delta the other day, its supposed to be quite something! And, re the bird box, I only ever have lizards and mice in mine too!

Love and hugs gorgeous xx

Not more similarities!!!?😂

So happy you saw a kingfisher!! How are your mice? Settling in with the newcomer!??

My mice are gradually migrating outside! With a little help from a humane trap! Of course we are never rid of them entirely so the newest lodger will never be completely alone! She is learning French! 😂xx

What a beautiful story of Spring unfolding around you! I love watching my garden birds, but I have never put a nesting box out. I love that yours is inhabited by a lizard. I lived in hot countries when I was a child, and always loved lizards, they wakened my imagination because they looked like mini dinosaurs to me. Oh to see a flamingo in the wild, but a whole flock of them dancing, what an extraordinary sight of beauty that must be. Thank you for the mention! 💕

Thanks Ali. Nesting box is definitely fun because you constantly hope for a bird to nest.

Yes lizards are very dinosaur like. Kind of spooky when it just hung out of the box not moving!!

Beautiful Pipp. I have never seen a kingfisher, yet. I hope that with more walks along the river here in the spring and summer, I might be lucky. Gorgeous read. ✨💛
