As a walked this afternoon, alone, in the silence of the forest and smiling at my tenacity of actually managing to get out of the house in less than 30 mins without being called back to find something, do something, you know how that goes? I was quietly surprised to see a damp forest floor. Water was running down all the tiny valleys that run to the river in the bottom and although it wasn’t always visible I could hear the tell tale trickling sounds… it was a sound that filled me with such hope Pip, but you know, it’s not enough… the river at the valley floor is still a dry bed of tumbled stones, there is no life left there at all and as I wandered on I wondered how or even if, any of the fish and water creatures will return ? But like the wretched mosquitoes (I was eaten alive today) they somehow just appear…
Rain will come eventually, we will grumble like hell when it does but damn, this year it’s taking its time! We did have a ten minute torrential downpour yesterday, just as we were leaving classes of course, no coats, no umbrellas, typical.. drenched to the skin but laughing - it was a good feeling !
