Our heating broke down and living in a cold house in the winter isn’t much fun. Luckily after several phone calls it has finally been fixed. What a luxury to have a warm home in winter!! At least it is good to appreciate these things.
On my walk this morning it was chilly, I had forgotten my gloves so I noticed winter even more...With my hands knuckle deep in my pockets I listened to the sound of the wind in the trees and the squirrel invisibly munching a pine tree above. And I thought,
That summer gives us warmth, the scent of jazmine and most of the light.
Autumn owns the colours of the soul, the festival of leaves and their beauty of flight.
Spring holds the hope, the energy and the innocence of youth in sight.
But what about me?
Said winter,
What is left for me?
Oh you have your power don’t worry, everybody owns their own power, of course they do!
But winter couldn’t see it...shaking their head
...So what shall it be? Asked winter, at a loss,
...you’ve taken the light, the leaves, the colour and all things bright, so what is left for me?!
Don’t you see? They replied.
You bring mindfulness and beauty with the snow,
You clean out the cobwebs when the wind doth blow,
You warm the hearts of those who love to skate the figure eight,
You are the father of the snowman, and other innocent fun
So smile dear winter,
No need to be dour,
Remember how Van Gogh loved the almond flower!
But of course, most of all?
You are the diamonds at the ball!
Elusive and reticent to appear in the fall. But I’ve seen the generous dowry you prepare for spring, it’s surely fit for a king.
Yes, that was what I was thinking on my wintry walk, hands knuckle deep in my pockets.
Happy Weekend lovelies!
