Today I woke to more grey sky with just a hint of blue. I walked early as I always do through the woods. I climbed the rocky slope past the beautiful miniature Narcissi and some tiny purple flowers, happy loners, remnants, I am convinced, of forgotten tropical gardens. They are a treasure of inspiration for those who listen to the silence on the top of the hill. They speak of love. They are the colours of peace.
I sat on a damp rock and waited. Almost immediately a song thrush struck up a bright aria way up high on electricity cables above my head. A squirrel hiding in the branches was crunching through a pine cone. Its scissor sharp teeth made quick work of it in a clickety click to the core. The concert was completed with an aeroplane far away followed by another in quick succession providing the bass line. This surround sound is my energy source too. Feeds my smile.
I catch sight of the squirrel. I have got good at spotting them now. Turning my ear to their sounds and looking for their bushy tails. I adore how they dart along branches from tree to tree running like lightening as if tight roping a cobweb.
I feel my mood shifting. The news of the war has got me down. ‘Lighten up’, I tell myself. ‘The birds couldn’t fly if they carried the weight of the world on their wings!’
I have felt sad about this world and how it is ruined for so many by so few. Enough. There is no point in magnifying the pain.
I am cheering the spirit, not turning the other cheek. No good will come of drowning our souls in tears. This shall be my corner for remembering the good.
All the warmth, generosity, love of this world is greater than the tragedy we know unfolds somewhere.
We shall help and give and smile to those in need, our way of trying to heal the world’s scars. We can write, act, unite, protest, volunteer, not just vote with our ballot, but vote with our wallet, with our feet, even turning down the heating one notch is a vote against the latest war, we can hug and love, donate, coordinate and make a noise!
So breathe. Feel the breeze on your face. Embrace the colours and sounds of peace.💛
…Some lemony yellow cheer from the generosity of spring.
Lots of love
