Face of an angel
A true story in only 100 words from autumn 2022, when I was reminded yet again to never judge a book by its cover.
City bus station. White corrugated roof. Concrete ground. Stern-faced bus driver of sixty plus, hair combed in thick gel. Pale faced he packs cases into the hold.
But keys didn’t turn in the ignition.
He appears at the staircase to announce the loos were vandalised.
‘Don’t fret ladies, I’ll wait at the next stop if you need it. Why do they do it? Some spoil it for the rest. Older I get, the closer to nature I feel. We’re all made of the same. Doesn’t hurt nobody to help another. Heart. It’s an anagram of earth. We’re of one earth.’

This story was inspired by
and her Friday free writing 100 word stories. It amazes me how fast I can clock up 500 words! Getting it down to a hundred exactly is a challenge that teaches me more about the meaning of words we choose. I never expected to learn from this. I was initially thinking it was a way to let my readers just have a short story to read. It has turned into a gymnastic exercise that I value. I am glad of the connections it has made too.Happy Friday lovelies.
I’ve always loved that anagram along with listen/silent !
Nice work Pipp, these 100 word stories really are great training aren’t they..!
