As many of you know I I discovered my voice with the help of my camera, selling nature photos of zen. Like a traditionally made willow lobster pot dropped out in the ocean currents, I see what I can capture in words. Stories and snippets are influenced by nature conservation, mindfulness, twilight photography and walking meditations with the added pull of the moon.
Life is a busy weave of family and work with our own audio business. Its twists and turns are stamped with the red tape of a migrant’s journey. As I get older and hopefully a bit wiser, I learn I am more at home in a book than ever before.
Rather than just leaving behind a few ashes that are left to sleep silently, deep in the earth, I love the idea that words live on beyond our years, on a printed page. Let words age, moss and all, rather than the stone slab. Better still, let our words be lessons for earth's grandchildren, that they might not repeat the same mistakes. I am so glad and grateful you joined me on my soul search.
I joined SubStack in search of a digital home for books but I discover there is more, there are writers who inspire me to write bigger and better. Amazingly they have accepted me. This is a journey I hadn’t planned for at all. You could say somebody switched the road signs in the middle of the night.
I love prose and short nature pieces which is where I started after setting up a now, five-year-old blog. While the blog continues I am hoping to set aside time from now to spring to finally put together my first book. As many of you lovely readers have said encouragingly, most of the work is done, it is a question of selecting and fine tuning and then finding the printer which is a new area for me.
There is also a new story that seems to have found me. It took me by storm. It is a bigger more intricate piece. I can’t wait to write it but since New Year I recognise it has to be one thing at a time, so if I am sending out less stories for a wee while please forgive me; I haven’t gone off into the wilderness. I am working on something and you’ll be the first to know when it is done. I thank you so much for your support, you are truly amazing.
Haha.. we’ll see - I think a little ironing at least first..!
Also I hear what you say about the photography, this is my stumbling block... the instantaneousness of it - the sighting, the snapping, the posting..! It’s fast and furious... and if it’s not you miss it - with writing there has to be a question of time factored in - a commodity I’m so short of...!
And of course, I’m not a photographer either... I barely even know how my camera works - I just know what I like to see and hope that others do too..! X
One thing at a time it sounds so easy but when you’re bursting with words it is not. So I’m so excited for this part of your journey it’s an honor to come for the ride. Your new story the excitement is very clear. Your book I’m so pleased your now on the way with a clear idea ahead of you , and new things to navigate. I wish you joy completing this adventure xx
