Today I walk to breathe deep
Fill my lungs with air
When the land is steep.
Tomorrow I catch a plane
But not in vain
We will fly against the storm
To read in your name.
I shall hold my shoulders well
I will not stoop or be shy
I have rehearsed in my mind’s eye
The steps to the stand.
I am ready as I could ever be.
The words on paper;
I will try and give them life
As you would have done,
As you did so well.
We will read you a poem
As you sleep
You will all be missed
Dancer, actress, aunt, teacher, poet.
On a full moon
The colours you dared,
The books you absorbed,
They glitter in your room.
They will hear your poem
As you sleep
Now on a train through a winterscape
A big blue sky reminds me
Your ashes lie where you asked to be;
Rest assured, your spirit roams free
You shall hear your poem
When we sleep
